Landguard Nature Reserve is on a sand and shingle peninsula at the mouth of the River Orwell and is an area of immense value for plants and birds. The site, occupying an area of 64 acres, has been designated as an area of Special Scientific Interest due to its rare shingle flowers and numerous shore and migrating birds. Immediately alongside the Reserve is the Landguard Bird Observatory which has recorded over 280 different species of birds. The Nature Reserve hosts a varied programme of children’s activities and guided walks.
