Navigation House has been refurbished thanks to a Lottery Grant. Having been built in 1794, the house was designed for the purpose of being weighing offices for the river navigation. Canal travellers would bring in their goods for weighing and would be taxed accordingly. It was closed down in 1878 after the introduction of a railway to the town, making the canals uneconomic. Today, the house offers visitors a small but interesting exhibition about Sleaford’s canal life back in its heyday.
