Behind this theatre’s plain façade is evidence of a long and interesting history. Built in 1896 by the theatre impresario, Frederick Marlow, the building has also been Rivoli Picture House, an ABC Cinema and the home of the successful illusionist, The Great Rameses. Relaunched in 1998, the New Empire Theatre now presents a wide-ranging programme of entertainment, including films, old and new, concerts from classical to pop, and professional and amateur theatre productions.
