The awesome sight of the castle dominates the skyline as it towers over the City of Norwich below. Once a Royal Palace and built by the Normans some nine hundred years ago, its now a museum and art gallery. From the fourteenth century it had been used as a prison but it was not until 1894 that it was first used as a museum. It now houses one of England’s finest regional collections of natural history, art and archaeology.
