Old Thatch is a large cottage dating from the 17th Century. It served as an alehouse and was reputedly a hideaway of Dick Turpin. The house was made famous as the home of the children’s author Enid Blyton who described it as “Perfect both outside and in ... just like a Fairy Tale house". Old Thatch is now owned by garden designer Jacky Hawthorne and the gardens are open on regular dates during the summer months (check website for details). There are also bookable courses on garden design, Enid Blyton and painting. The beautiful gardens have a tranquil atmosphere, best savoured while relaxing with a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake.
