Founded in 1284 by Hugo de Balsham, the Bishop of Ely, Peterhouse is the oldest of the university’s colleges. The idea of the college was to house fourteen ‘worthy but impoverished fellows’. The college is rich with fantastic architecture that has developed over the last eight centuries. Some of the highlights of the college are the magnificent chapel designed by Matthew Wren and it’s stained glass windows that were added to by some history’s greatest designers. Peterhouse is without doubt one of the most visited colleges at both Oxford and Cambridge.
