Prittlewell Priory was founded by Robert fitSuen in the early 12th Century. It was common in the Middle Ages for noblemen to build such structures and hope that monks praying for them would increase their own chances of going to heaven. The Museum was opened in 1922 in the building, and became the first public museum for the area. It contains a vast collection of interesting pieces today, ranging from archaeological finds to photographs.
