The Redoubt Fort is an impressive 180ft in diameter and was built in 1808 to protect the harbour from Napoleonic invasion. It took only 3 years to build by hand and cost around £55,000. It was originally armed with 10 guns and surrounded by a deep moat. It is now partly used as a military museum and battle re-enactment along with other events are held during the summer. It also displays large guns, military uniforms, local artefacts and an audio visual display.
