The River Yare in Great Yarmouth used to be one of the busiest stretches of water in Britain. In fact, it was once so crowded with boats and barges that townspeople could cross it by stepping from one to another. Today, the river is much less busy, but still navigable to small craft from Norwich to the sea, where it passes through the Norfolk broads. En route are the riverside towns of Bramerton, Brundall and Reedham as well as the roadless village of Berney Arms.
