The Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club was founded on April 9 1859 apparently with the double intention of encouraging yacht sailing and discouraging the brawling and bad behaviour that went with it. The first club house was built in 1885 but the present one replaced it in 1903. Designed by the well-known Norfolk architect, George Skipper, it is now Grade II listed and a fitting backdrop to the marina, which offers easy access to the sea and the Norfolk Broads.
