Royston is a small and attractive market town in Hertfordshire that has a long and interesting history in terms of trade because of its position on several main ancient roads. The museum was originally opened in 1856, but in 1901 was closed again. It was in 1965 that the Royston and District Local History Society was formed and the museum was given a new lease of life. It contains a wealth of collections, related to education, archaeology, culture and other facets of town life.
