A punt is a square ended boat, which is driven along a shallow river with a pole, similar to the gondolas in Venice, but punts are found exclusively in Cambridge and Oxford. The best way to explore the city is by hiring a punt and (if you can get the hang of it!) gliding down the river Cam along the ‘backs’ exploring the sights and sounds of Cambridge. Scudamores are the largest punt hire company in Cambridge and offer punts both through the city and up river towards Grantchester and into the meadows. They also offer chauffeured punting services.
