Snape Maltings is a unique, mainly mid 19th Century, collection of granaries and malthouses close beside the River Alde near Saxmundham in Suffolk. The Maltings were used for malting local barley for the brewing industry right up until 1960 when malting in this way became uneconomic. After being bought by the Gooderham family the Maltings were gradually restored and today houses shops, galleries and the world famous concert hall that hosts the annual Aldeburgh music festival.
