This beautiful and romantic site would have once contained one of the most impressive Tudor mansions anywhere in region, built in 1560 by Sir Richard Lee, a royal engineer granted the land twenty years previous by Henry VIII. Today, only the remains of the building are still in place, but there are several exhibitions that explain the way that the house would have looked, as well as fine views from the ruins.
