It is thought that the church was built in 1420, at that time just consisting of the magnificent tower that houses a clock that can be seen from almost everywhere in the village. Throughout the next few centuries this large parish church was added to and by the late seventeenth century was complete. In recent years an ongoing appeal has been launched to restore the crumbling tower and has received a great deal of local support and region-wide press coverage. The church is one of the more impressive examples of its age remaining in the region.
