The current church is an expansion (1869-85) of a much older original with a list of clergy going back as far as 1210. An oak screen doorway to the Lady Chapel is from the 16th Century and a 15th Century tomb (probably of John Butler, Sheriff of Buckinghamshire) is in the sanctuary. Two great parliamentarians are commemorated – the political thinker Edmund Burke (1729-97) and Benjamin Disraeli (1804-81), who presented a baroque armchair on becoming the Earl of Beaconsfield in 1876.
