St Nicholas’ Church is thought to be the largest parish church in England. It was begun in 1101, but subsequently extended three times - in 1190, when arches were added to the nave, in 1286, when the chancel aisles were added, and in 1332, when the transepts were added. Also interesting are the aisles, which, unusually, are wider than the nave.
