Stansted Airport is the largest passenger airport in the east of England and is England’s ‘short haul’ capital. The airport was originally constructed as an army base by the Americans in 1942 but came to note when the new terminal building was designed by the high profile designer Norman Foster in 1986. The terminal is an architectural masterpiece that has been replicated across the world since its successful completion in 1991. The ‘floating roof’ and natural day lighting system was revolutionary and has won awards and accolades across the architectural world.
