This lighthouse was built in 1818 by the architect Daniel Asher Alexander and under the supervision of John Rennie Senior to replace earlier wooden ones. The lighthouse belonged to General Rebow until 1836 when Trinity House bought it. It then became redundant in 1863 due to the changing course of the channel. The High Lighthouse had stood empty for some time until in March 1991 Tendring District Council gave the lease to the National Vintage Wireless and Television Museum Trust.
