Now owned by English Heritage, the Old Merchant's House brings back to life the ups and downs of Great Yarmouth's fortunes over the centuries. It was built in the 17th century, when the town was at its most prosperous, but by the 19th century, overcrowding in the town saw the house divided into two smaller cramped dwellings. By the 1930s it was only saved from slum clearance by local enthusiasts. Today, it is a fascinating museum with exhibits including local ironwork and models of past tenants.
