Great Yarmouth's medieval Town Wall is one of the most intact in the country. Large ruined sections of it together with its defensive turrets can still be seen in the town. Once half a mile long, seven feet thick and 23 feet high, it took over 80 years to build, every resident being required to build a section of it. The order to build came from King Henry III because the town was vulnerable to pirates and invaders.
