Flaunden, Chenies, Buckinghamshire - England, UK
  Share Location Map

William Liberty's tomb can be in found in the hedgerow of a field close to the nearby ruined Flauden church. He was a relative of the family of Liberty’s of Regent Street, London. The brick tomb is enclosed by railings and is the final resting place of William Liberty who died in 1777. He wanted to be buried outside of the churchyard as he had a fear of being unable to find his bones after resurrection. The tomb is situated beside the Chess Valley footpath between Mill Farm and the abandoned St Mary Magdalene Church.

Found William and Edith's tomb hidden behind brambles and weeds today. It is a shame this has been left to tatters but uplifting to find some history on our scenic walk. I came home and searched for information on William and Edith liberty to my surprise there wasn't very much recorded. I would think there are relations still alive I wonder whether they know of the tomb's existence ? I am off to search more on this subject as I can't believe there isn't anymore stories on the Internet.. - Karen
