The original museum here opened its doors to the public in 1847, making this one of the oldest purpose built museums in the country. The well-preserved interior allows visitors to visit a truly beautiful Victorian museum of note. There is a wide selection of displays and exhibits here, including an exceptional gallery dedicated to Thomas Clarkson, a local man who was instrumental in the abolition of the North Atlantic slave trade.
