Thomas Ripley built Wolterton Hall in the 1720’s for Horatio Walpole, brother of Britains first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole. During the 19th century a new wing was added and the park enclosed as well as various alterations. In 1858 following the death of the 3rd Earl the hall was abandoned as his son moved to Mannington. The property was restored when the Earl moved back in 1905. The hall contains an outstanding collection of 18th century portraits. It is set in extensive and beautiful parkland with woodland and lake.
