Cramond is one of the nicest and closest escapes from the busy Edinburgh town. It features nice promenades, the remains of a Roman fort from 142AD and a 15th Century church tower with a remarkable graveyard. The Cramond Island in the Firth of Forth is only accessible via a causeway when the tide is out; this brings a breath of adventure to the day out. The village pub and restaurant Cramond Inn has a beer garden with a stunning view on the island and provides the possibility for a nice break with good food.
