Direlton Castle has probably boasted a garden since its was built in the 13th Century, and still retains one of the most impressive landscaped green areas in the region. The oldest surviving part of the castle is the de Vaux Towers, which are dated to 1240. The dovecote is extremely well preserved and houses over a thousand nesting boxes. The entire property is owned and managed by Historic Scotland.
