Built in 1977, Dunbar’s Close Gardens are a green paradise situated just next to the old-world splendour of the Royal Mile. The gardens are named after writer David Dunbar who used to own the buildings on either side of the street back in the 18th Century. The gardens are only open during daylight hours and are a series of landscaped squares full of well-manicured shrubs, benches perfect for picnics, all with a perfect view of Calton Hill and the surrounding architecture.
