This beautiful piece of architecture is sadly not complete, and today forms a ruined abbey in the great Scottish capital. The ruins are thought to date in their earliest part from the 12th Century and have been to an extent restored and preserved by Historic Scotland, an organisation that has helped to keep this area open to the public. Some heavy restorations in the 20th Century have helped visitors see more of what the abbey once looked like.
