Innocent Railway Tunnel
Saint Leonard's Bank, Edinburgh - Scotland, UK

Map
The Innocent Railway Tunnel, also known as the Saint Leonard’s Railway Tunnel, was the first public railway tunnel in Scotland and connected the city of Dalkeith into Edinburgh by railway. The history behind the name innocent is in dispute; some say that it is because no one died during the tunnel construction, others say it is because the tunnel was used for steam engines, which were considered very safe during the time the tunnel was built. Today the tunnel is a walking/cycle pathway.
