Just off the main street in Linlithgow stands one of Scotland’s most important historic sites: Linlithgow Palace. All of the Stewart kings lived at the Palace and it was the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots. It is likely that this site was occupied from as early as the 1100s. However, the Palace that is seen today dates from 1425 when James 1 began building. The Palace was added to by subsequent kings over the following hundred years. Access is available to Linlithgow Loch and the extensive peel (park).
