Housed within a building on the south edge of the main square in the University of Edinburgh’s Old College, the Playfair Library has some of the most grandiose architecture in the city. With a stunning neo-classical interior, the hall was a working library from the 1820s until the 1960s, when the university consolidated its collection in George Square. The brilliant location now serves as a dinner and reception hall, although students will know the library as a frequent location for exams.
