The Scottish Parliament opened in the Holyrood Parliament in 2004. The building won eight international architecture awards, cost £400 million pounds and is situated opposite Holyrood Palace, the Queens Gallery and next to Our Dynamic Earth. In 1998 the Scotland Act was passed and led to the establishment of Scotland’s first legislative body since 1707. The 129 MSPs (Member of the Scottish Parliament) are voted via a method of proportional representation, titled “Additional Member System”. The building also hosts the Festival of Politics in the festival season in August.
