Lying on the south side of the Thames, just 8 miles south of Oxford, Abingdon is built on the site of an Iron Age defensive enclosure. Abingdon is noted for its Museum, described as the "grandest town hall" in Britain and the beautiful St Marys church built in 1100. Regular celebrations include the famous bun throwing competitions, morris dancing and the yearly Ock Street Michaelmas Fair held in October.
