Alum Bay is situated on the Isle of Wight, where from its sandy bay you can view the famous Needles. The sands and cliffs of the bay are multi-coloured due to the sequence of Eocene beds, which comprise of layers of sand and clay. The sands are coloured due to oxidisation of the iron compounds. During the summer the cliff tops feature an amusement park known as Needles Park, where craft stalls and shops sell ornaments and glass produced from the local sand.
