Ben Lomond, by the shores of the famous Loch Lomond, is the most southerly Munro in Scotland. It’s a popular hill which is best enjoyed by its less well used Ptarmigan Ridge. This rises from just north of Rowardennan and offers spectacular views of the loch as you gain height. If you look south you’ll see Conic Hill (so called because of its shape) and many islands which fill the loch’s southern basin. This area bears witness to the Highland Boundary Fault which can be traced if you look closely; the faultline marks a separation between the Highlands and Lowlands.
