Bothwell is located in a charming position next to the banks of the River Clyde, and is the largest and finest 13th Century castle to stand anywhere in Scotland. At the heart of the castle is the 13th Century prison tower that gives visitors an idea of the grim conditions in which medieval prisoners were kept. The impressive 14th Century great hall and chapel are amongst the other features of the property, overseen by Historic Scotland.
