Visitors are always surprised when they first set eyes on Loch Lomond. Less than 30 kilometres from the centre of Glasgow and at the edge of an urban fringe it is an area of outstanding beauty. Covering more than 70 square kilometres the loch will reward several days exploration. Ferries operate from the southern end at Balloch with cruises among the loch’s wooded islands. The loch narrows towards its northern end and a walk along the eastern shore here will bring you through ancient oak woodlands and past Rob Roy’s cave.
