One of the few Cotswold stone buildings in Tewkesbury, this gatehouse was built in 1500 and restored in 1849 by James Medland. It is one of many Abbey buildings around the Church to have survived to the present day. This area belongs to the Abbey Lawn Trust, which was created in 1962 to protect the areas close to the Abbey Church from development. The Trust was originally funded by an American benefactor.
