The 1819 novel Ivanhoe, by Sir Walter Scott features a famous jousting scene that takes place outside of this beautiful castle in the heart of the community. Starting as a manor house in the 12th Century, the building achieved castle status in the 15th Century. Visitors are treated to a fascinating display of military architecture, one of the most visited attractions in the area.
