A Benedictine Abbey, Belmont was built to the design of Edward Welby Pugin. Constructed between 1854 and 1857 it is built in the decorated, Early English style. It was once a Cathedral for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Newport and Menevia and became an Abbey in 1920. It contains a small relic of Saint Thomas of Hereford, who is portrayed in the West window of the church. In the adjoining gardens stand a fountain and a statue of St Michael.
