Bisley Street runs along the ancient Gloucester-to-Cirencester road, and has Painswick's oldest buildings. Among them, New Hall, a fifteenth Century wool hall, The Chur, which is fourteenth Century, and Little Fleece, once part of a medieval inn and now home to a National Trust bookshop. Two buildings here, The Chur and Byfield House, come complete with Donkey Doors, which were built wide enough for fleece-laden donkeys to pass through.
