Sitting high on a hillside it is clearly visible from the M1 motorway. The surviving buildings are mainly the work of the Sir William Cavendish from the 1660s. The main surviving features are the Little Castle and the Riding School Range. Bolsover Castle has some finely decorated rooms with vaulted ceilings, elaborate fireplaces and paneling. The Pillar Chamber, the Elysium Room and Heaven Room adorned with cherubs and angels are all impressive.
