Built in the early 1900s the Opera House was a theatre until converted to a cinema in 1927. It stayed a cinema, except for a few special performances, until the 1970s. It was saved from decline in 1979 and major renovations were completed in 2001. Today it is back to its original glory hosting drama, comedy, music, dance, opera and pantomime. The Opera House is one of series a interesting buildings in the town many connected with its role as a fasionable spa in the 18th and 19th centuries.
