This Italianate church was designed by Henry Dangerfield and completed in 1855 with money raised by the Baptist congregation that was formed over ten years earlier. The history of Baptists in Cheltenham goes back still further to 1690 when they first met in a disused malt house in the town. At the church’s first service, a young Charles Haddon was heard. By 1861, Haddon was famous and preaching to 6000 people in the specially built Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. The church has a fine interior with a gallery supported by iron columns.
