This gateway is of one of the few remaining fragments of Old Campden House. Built to impress in 1613 for the richest man in England, Sir Baptist Hicks, this fabulous ornate Jacobean Mansion was burned down by Cromwell's army just 32 years later. Only this gatehouse and the banqueting halls nearby escaped the flames. With decorative features including domed roofs, a curtain wall, with a moulded parapet, and a carved stone arch, this would have been a fitting entrance to the house.
