Cheltenham was at forefront of Victorian education in Britain and The Cheltenham Ladies' College led the way in the education of girls. Its early success forced it to move to its present building in 1873. Designed by Middleton & Goodman, this Victorian building, with its spires and domes, is a striking Cheltenham landmark. The site too has played its part in the history of the town. The first Cheltenham spa well was built here after pigeons were seen pecking at salt deposits in 1716.
