Clearwell Caves were mined for many years for iron, and are indeed one of the oldest and most interesting pieces of industrial and social heritage in the area. The mines are no longer in action in their original form, but are open to the public to view the way that the people used to work within them, and to see harsh conditions in which people toiled to reach the important mineral.
