An Anglican church stood in Coleford’s market place in the 18th Century, but by 1820 the original chapel had been rebuilt on a much larger scale. By the late 1800s this was proving too small for the congregation and was replaced by a larger church in Boxbush Road. The old church was all but dismantled, leaving just the tower with its bell, cast in 1718 by Abraham Rudhall, and the clock, bought by public subscription in 1863. The imposing tower is now the focal point of the town.
