The Curfew Tower is the oldest building in Moreton-in-Marsh. It dates from Norman times when its bell rang to remind the townspeople to "cover fire" for the night. The current bell dates from 1633, and it was rung daily until 1860, apparently, to help residents find their way home in the fog. After that, it was used to summon the fire brigade. The clock is also the original one from 1633.
