Commissioned by Jospeph Strutt, Derby Arboretum was the first specifically designed urban park to be built anywhere in Britain. The park was donated to the people of the city in 1840, and since that time has remained one of the most popular areas of green land. There are two Tudor style lodges in the park that were designed by lodge and some of the trees in the park are contained on the British Isles Tree Register.
